A STAR IN THE MAKING: Ava Caryofyllis

The Spark of a Dream

Ava’s love for acting began at just five years old when her dad, who is also an actor, asked if she wanted to give it a try. What started as a fun hobby quickly grew into something more. “The moment I knew it was my dream job was during the audition process for Bay of Fires. I suddenly realized how much it meant to me. It wasn’t just a hobby anymore, it was my career path.”

Her very first role was in a Demazin Cold & Flu commercial, where she acted alongside a CGI character which was a green-screen pillow! Even at that age, she felt the magic of being on set. That spark has only grown brighter with each project since.

Rising to the Moment

When Ava found out she was nominated for a Logie Award, she was in Tasmania filming Bay of Fires season two. “I was on FaceTime with my best friend when Dad called me out. He showed me the post on his phone. At first, I didn’t believe it. Once it sank in, I screamed and ran around the house. It was crazy!”

Owning the Stage — and the Nerves

Like many young actors, Ava admits she gets nervous before auditions and filming. But she’s learned how to embrace it. “I always have nerves radiating off me! Over the years, I’ve learned to just breathe and relax. Once the audition is done, it’s done! Whatever happens, happens.”

She’s also discovered how much work happens behind the scenes. “People think actors make the movie, but really it’s the entire team working together. That was such a big eye-opener for me.”

Balancing Life & Big Dreams

Despite her success, Ava is still a regular teenager. “My school has been really supportive, helping me balance filming with studies. My friends don’t treat me differently. They just see me as Ava, which keeps me grounded.” When she’s not acting, she’s busy playing guitar, singing, doing art, or hanging out with family and friends.

And if she weren’t an actor? “I’d love to be a singer in a band, just like my dad. Living the rockstar life would be amazing!”

Advice for Dreamers

Ava’s message to other young dreamers is simple but powerful: “Have fun with it! Don’t stress over auditions. Every experience is special and something you can learn from. Take classes, keep growing, and enjoy the ride.”

Her story is proof that big dreams start small. Sometimes with a simple question from your dad, or a green-screen pillow. For Ava, the journey is just beginning, but she’s already inspiring others to chase their own spotlight.
